RANCHO CORDOVA —

Sacramento Metropolitan firefighters stopped a kitchen fire in a Rancho Cordova apartment from spreading and saved two puppies in the process.

Just after 3 p.m., Saturday afternoon, Metro Fire crews responded to a fire in a four-unit complex on Coloma Road in Rancho Cordova.

They forced entry and quickly put out the kitchen fire. Nobody was home, but there were two puppies that were trapped inside. One of the dogs ran out of the house, and the other was rescued by the fire crews.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation , though it was determined to have started near the stove. No other units in the complex were damaged.
