Nestled in the rich agriculture of Davis, springing from the same soil where the Hunt-Wesson tomato cannery once stood, a first of its kind community is welcomed to the neighborhood.

"It's a hundred-acre neighborhood planning at its best," New Homes Company Vice President Kevin Carson said.

Unlike popular gated communities, "The Cannery" community is expected to offer something different. Carson took FOX40 on a tour of the development Thursday, explaining the layout and what has yet to be built.

In the end, it will be a 547-unit mixed-use community.

Homes in the development are expected to cost $400,000 to over $1 million.
