Two separate drug investigations led to two arrests, the confiscation of several ounces of heroin and the closure of a hash oil lab, Modesto police said.
The first investigation was on Wednesdsay about 12:43 p.m. Officers said they responded to a call of a suspicious person looking over a fence and entering the backyard of a home on Snyder Avenue.
Police say they found two people in a backyard shed where they also found evidence of a hash oil lab.
Zakk Smith, 23, was arrested on suspicion of manufacturing a controlled substance.
Investigators are trying to file additional charges for allegedly manufacturing a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school.
About 3:40 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, officers with the street gang unit pulled over 30-year-old Matthew McDonough during a traffic stop.
McDonough was found to be on probation and multiple warrants out for his arrest.
Officers said they found a loaded gun, one ounce of methamphetamine, two ounces of heroin, more than 30 oxycodone pills and evidence of drug sales in the car.
Officers also found a stolen gun and seven more ounces of heroin in McDonough’s hotel room, police said.
McDonough was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance with a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, possession of methamphetamine for sales, possession of heroin for sales, two warrants and violation of probation.
