ROCKLIN --

“We have some ideas to create a golf complex. We were looking for space to do it, and this may be the opportunity as it presents itself to us,” said Chris Woods, owner of Rocklin Golf Tec.

Woods is centered in the golf community as the owner of Golf Tec in Rocklin. His parent company, as well as some local investors, has been planning a mega golf complex (a driving range on steroids, if you will), and now, their sights are set on the recently closed Rocklin Golf Club.

“I think we're a mecca — a golf mecca. We are surrounded by golfers and golf courses. This is a perfect opportunity. A perfect storm,” said Woods.

Indeed, this area is in love with the game of golf. There are 17 other golf courses within 10 miles of this closed track. The land here, though, is privately owned and quickly turning brown.

The city can't do much about it, but they have done what they could, which is exercise a license and access agreement this week they had with the ownership group.

“That will allow us to enter the property and work towards irrigation improvements and start preserving some of the vegetation and trees that are on the property,” said Leslie Woodman, spokesperson from the City of Rocklin.

The agreement allows the city now to look at both long-term and short-term options for the property. They aren't authorized to make any deals, but the city does value the land and has a responsibility to the community.

“It's a testament to the importance of this to the community and maintaining it for the community and its residents,” said Woodman.

“I think the community has spoken. They want something to happen down there and we're willing to get engaged to try and help create something that is phenomenal in that location,” said Woods.
