Garden Hwy. Shut Down in Sacramento After Suspect Flees, Crashes

SACRAMENTO —

A portion of Garden Highway was closed to traffic on Tuesday night after a suspect fled from police, crashed and was killed.

Police said the suspect, 31-year-old Andrea Rios, who was reportedly armed, fled and was involved in a solo-vehicle crash near Garden Highway and Sand Cove Park.

The car caught fire and the suspect was pronounced dead on scene.

Police say they did not fire any bullets at the suspect.

The suspect and another man were seen at an apartment complex near Stone Creek Drive around 6:30 p.m.. A witness reported seeing the two firing a rifle and then placing the weapon in the trunk before the suspect drove away.

Police pulled Rios over just west of I-5 on Garden Highway but she refused to put the car in park and sped away from officers.

Rios’ car was found to had left the roadway and overturned, before crashing into a tree and catching fire.
