The Sacramento Kings and JMA Ventures has changed the name of the complex surrounding the Golden 1 Center from Downtown Plaza to Downtown Commons.

The mixed use project anchored by a hotel/office complex now has its first tenants, including Punch Bowl Social, Pour Society and Sauced BBQ and Spirits. The businesses will be part of a public area that will host community events as well as sporting and entertainment events booked at the new arena.

Punch Bowl Social is a business that provides family entertainment and food and is located in several other NBA cities. Pour Social is a Northern California-based pub featuring farm to fork food. Sauced BBQ is also a regional company that hopes to serve the lunch and dinner crowd along with fans.

Long time Sacramento residents remember the hype surrounding America Live!, a national outfit that opened three huge night clubs and dance clubs in the remodeled Downtown Plaza shopping mall in the early 1990's. The were supposed to help create a new downtown entertainment district but lasted only a few years.

The developers of the Golden 1 Center hope that their enterprise will have a better chance of success because of the people who will be drawn to events there. They hope to draw family oriented visitors even when there isn't NBA games being played.

The group says more tenant announcements will be made in the coming months.
