SACRAMENTO —

An elderly woman is recovering after she was reportedly sexually assaulted in her North Sacramento home just after 6 a.m. Saturday.

Frances Vanskike got a call from her panicked mother-in-law after the attack.

“I thought she was having a heart attack,” Vanskike said.

The 72-year-old, who didn’t want to be identified, was punched in the face and choked when a man broke into her home on Diablo Drive, according to her family.

“She had a black eye. She had marks around her throat,”  Vanskike said.

The suspect is described by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department as a black man in his 20s. He may have some injuries of his own on his face as the elderly woman tried to fight him off.

Vanskike said not only did the man hit her, but he also robbed her taking nearly $800 out of her purse.

This is the second time in two weeks an assault has happened near the North Sacramento area.

On Sept. 22, a man with a similar description attempted to rob and sexually assault two women at the intersection of Walerga Road and Galbrath Drive.

Deputy Tony Turnbull with the sheriff’s department could not confirm if the two assaults were committed by the same suspect.

Anyone with information on either of these crimes is urged to call the sheriff’s department at (916) 874-5115.
