Six people are recovering from stab wounds after an 18-year-old man allegedly attacked them at a quinceanera party in Madison, just outside of Woodland.

The incident happened Saturday night around 10:30. One man, identified by police as 18-year-old Daniel Portugal, is in custody.

Ricardo Alvario's band Los Destructores played at the event. One of his band members was the first victim attacked.

"We were taking pictures with the family when a guy was attacking my band member," Alvario said.

Maria Avena, a member of the family hosting the party, said the family knows the suspect and his grandparents, but she says he was not invited to the quinceanera.

After initially attacking a band member, the suspect allegedly stabbed five others, some of whom were trying to subdue him, according to witnesses.

"It was horrible, everyone was screaming. There were little kids also in the process crying," said Alvario.

Yolo County sheriff's detectives say the attacker had no apparent motive.

When all was said and done, two band members, three guests and a security guard were rushed to local hospitals, some stabbed in the head and neck. Two with more severe injuries were airlifted.

Rosa Gonzales has lived in Madison for 38 years. She says it's the kind of a town where everyone knows everyone else.

She's friends with the family of the suspected attacker.

"I don't know what happened because I wasn't here, but all his family that I know is nice persons," said Gonzales.

She says to her knowledge the suspect was never a violent kid.

"Nothing, nothing, I don't see nothing," she said when asked if he's been in trouble in the past.

"Well everybody was just yelling, commotion, bottles breaking," said one neighbor, who didn't want to be identified. He saw the aftermath and called 911. He too had met the attacker.

"I never thought he would do anything like this," the man said.

No one at the home where neighbors say the 18-year-old suspect lived would talk to FOX40.

Investigators say they are still trying to piece together what drove the suspect to commit such a violent crime.

All six people stabbed are OK and out of the hospital, according to Avena.

Portugal is being held on six counts of assault with a deadly weapon and violation of probation.
