FAIR OAKS --

One Sacramento Metro firefighter was injured Thursday while en route to respond to a boat fire off of Mauna Loa Court in Fair Oaks.

"It was a muscular injury ... but not a direct result to the fire itself," Battalion Chief Aaron Webster told FOX40 Thursday.

The firefighter was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to be OK.

Homeowner Curtis Cundy tells FOX40 he filled his boat up with gas and plugged the battery in to charge shortly before the boat in his yard caught fire.

"I saw smoke in the backyard, heard an explosion from the house... everything was on fire!" he said.

Firefighters were able to put the fire out before it spread to nearby homes.

"It spread to the canvas awnings ... and the tree above," Webster said, adding that the county hazmat team was called out to check for fuel spillage.

The official cause of the fire is under investigation.
