More than 40 veterans and active military attended an event Tuesday at Samuel Kennedy Elementary in Sacramento.

Each were moved by the passion, love and dedication the students showed as the kids sang and flew flags.

"I was just amazed these children put everything into this just a very inspiring thing just wonderful," Vietnam veteran Terry Martin said.

Retired Army Captain Ken Guglielmina served in Iraq before becoming a 3rd grade teacher at Kennedy. He says the ceremony serves both as a proper thank you to veterans and as a history lesson for students.

"We are really trying to teach, have our kids have a good understanding of what it means to serve your country, be a good citizen, understand what veterans do," he said. "I don't think they have a good understanding of it and this really ties it in, really brings in the community."
