Just two days after masked gunmen rushed into Sam's Corner Store and took thousands of dollars, its manager is trying to return to normalcy.

"I see the video when I come in with the police, we check the video, I didn’t believe it," manager Saleh “Sam” Suwadi told FOX40.

Sam Suwadi, his brother and their father own and manage the store that sits on the corner of Lucerne and El Vecino Avenues in Modesto. It's their piece of the American Dream.

"It’s a bad feeling. Not the money, but bad feeling like, 'Why did they do that?'" Sam said.

Mike Suwadi was working Monday evening when three masked men stormed in, wearing hooded sweatshirts and armed with big guns, forced a customer on the ground, while one charged behind the register then demanded cash. In the video, Mike is seen with his hands up.

The men took cash, but didn't stop there. With his hands still up in the air, they force Mike to remove his wedding ring - something that can't be replaced - and also took his wallet.

"Green card and ID, license. Everything as well," Mike explained.

Customers and friends can't understand why this happened.

"This is so wrong, so wrong to put people through this kind of stuff, you know? Work for a living! Don’t take from somebody that’s working," Veronica Overturf, a friend and customer told FOX40.

A tiny, close knit neighborhood -- rattled but brave.

Suwadi told us that this was the first robbery they've had since they opened up he business five years ago. However, it's not the first time they've encountered trouble. Just three years ago, a car rammed into the store. That's why there are yellow poles just right outside the business.
