The amount of mail theft reported in Modesto nearly doubled over a three month period during August – October as compared to the previous three months during the summer.

As first reported by the Modesto Bee, there were nearly 70 reported cases of stolen or tampered mail up from just over 30 cases in that span.

The Modesto Police Department wants to remind people that with the upcoming holidays, mail theft is just as prevalent as the often reported stories of packages being stolen off porches.

The U.S. Postal Service urges anyone who has been a victim of mail that the please report it immediately both to them and to the local police department.
