A student at Grant Union High School was shot and killed Friday afternoon near the school.

According to Mike Alberghini, the school’s varsity football coach, Jaulon Clavo died and Malik Johnson suffered non-life threatening injuries during the shooting. Both Clavo and Johnson are football players.

Five players were in a car near campus when another car drove by and opened fire, according to Alberghini. Clavo was the driver, and Johnson was a passenger in the front seat.

Grant was scheduled to host Beyer High School from Modesto Friday evening for the first round of Division 2 playoffs. The Twin Rivers Unified School District says the game was canceled because of the shooting.
