Two teenagers were gunned down in Stockton by another teen Thursday afternoon. A 15-year-old died and a 19-year-old was hospitalized after the shooting.

The Stockton Police Department closed California Street between Oak Street and Park Street for hours while investigating. As of 6:00 PM Thursday the road had not been reopened.

The shooting was reported just after 1 p.m. Both teenage boys were transported to an area hospital where the 15-year-old died and the 19-year-old was stabilized and taken to emergency surgery, according to the Stockton Police Department.

The suspect is described by authorities as a teenager himself. He is a 16- or 17-year-old black male, about 5-feet-7-inches tall with a muscular build. He was last seen wearing all black.

Joe Silva with the Stockton Police Department said the suspect walked up on the two victims in broad daylight and shot them. A motive is being looked into.

Silva couldn't say if the shooting was provoked.

Authorities will check the area for surveillance cameras to see if the shooting was caught on tape.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Stockton Police Department at (209) 937-8377. Callers can remain anonymous.
