On its busiest day of the year, the Amazon Fulfillment Center in Tracy opened its doors to the media for a peak into its operation less than a month before Christmas.

"We don't know exactly how many packages will be shipped out of this location today, but last year across the globe we shipped 43 million packages," Amazon spokesperson Sarah Gelman said.

Amazon says it has hired thousands of part-time workers, to go along with its normal full-time staff of around 2,500.

The fulfillment center opened in 2013, and is 1.1 million square feet.

The only estimate that Amazon is making about this Cyber Monday is that it will be greater than its sales a year ago.

Amazon has predicted a 14 percent sales increase this quarter over that of last year, a portion of that coming from Cyber Monday and holiday online sales.
