Students were evacuated from Caleb Greenwood Elementary in East Sacramento because of a gas odor Monday morning.

The Sacramento Fire Department tweeted about the evacuation around 8:20 a.m.

Parents told FOX40 the principal had told them the smell was an issue with the heater, as it apparently hadn't been turned on in weeks.

Shortly after 9 a.m., firefighters said the smell had dissipated and students were allowed back inside.
