The Sacramento Regional Transit District has launched a new smart phone app, “RideSacRT,” that allows customers to buy, save and use fare for RT bus and light rail trips.

The free mobile app is a six-month pilot program and will initially offer basic and discount single ride and daily passes, according to RT. An added benefit to use the app is that single ride fare is valid for up to 90 minutes once activated, which means that an RT mobile ticket can be used to ride both bus and light rail.

Up to 10 RT tickets or passes can be bought at once and stored on the app for use until June 30, 2016.

After the pilot program ends, RT will transition to a permanent mobile app with more features.

The app also allows riders to plan trips and track buses in real time.

The app is available for download on iOS and Android devices.
