TOPANGA — A military ordinance device was rendered safe after it was discovered buried in the backyard of a residence in Topanga on Saturday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

Deputies responded to the 21300 block of Colina Drive around 5 p.m. to an explosive device call, according to a Facebook post from the department’s Lost Hills Station.

The caller stated landscape workers were digging in the home’s backyard when they found the military-grade ordinance device, the post stated. The device measured about 30 inches in length.

Deputies cleared the area and set up containment while a Sheriff’s Arson and Explosives unit was sent to the scene.

After rendering it save, the team took possession of the device.

An investigation indicated the device appeared to have been inert, authorities said.
