SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The body of a missing surfer has been found off the Northern California coast.

The Marin County sheriff’s office said in a statement that 40-year-old Dan Dafoe of San Rafael was discovered along the surf line near Rodeo Beach on Friday.

Dafoe was reported missing amid heavy surf at the same beach two days earlier after two other surfers reported he was face-down in the water. The tried to bring him to shore through 8- to 10-foot waves until they and Dafoe were hit by a large wave. He was not seen again.

The county coroner identified Dafoe by fingerprints Friday and will do an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
