Someone shot and killed 17-year-old JJ Clavo on Nov. 13, just hours before he was supposed to take the field for a playoff game at Grant Union High School.

Although Sacramento police said on Tuesday they're hopeful to solve this case, JJ's mother, family and friends, including a teammate he was with when the shooting happened, gathered for the unveiling of the first of three billboards.

The billboard reads "Justice for JJ" and offers a $40,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of his killer.

His mother, Nicole Clavo, is hopeful someone will eventually come forward with the information police need to make an arrest.

But she also reached out to the suspect, asking that person to do the right thing and surrender.
