The Folsom Dam Auxiliary Spillway Project hit a major milestone Wednesday.

It was filled with water, equalizing it with the rest of the Folsom Lake reservoir. The next step is to remove the cofferdam, which provided a dry space for crews to work.

The new $900 million spillway is expected to be complete and operational by the end of 2016.
