MODESTO —

Stanislaus County Sheriff’s arrested one man Sunday in connection with a rooster fighting operation in Modesto, the department said.

Deputies responded to calls at 10:15 a.m. of people fighting dogs in the 1500 block of Grimes Ave in Modesto. When they arrived, they detained 20 people, eventually arrested 37-year-old Efrain Marcucci Jr. for cruelty to animals.

Officials say 300 live roosters and 50 dead roosters were found next to a fighting pin in the backyard of the property. Animal Control took custody of the live and dead roosters.
