SACRAMENTO --

Friends of the man who died early Thursday morning in a car crash on Highway 50 near Howe Avenue identified him as 25-year-old marine and Sac state student Brett Thomas Jones of Sacramento.

Jones was riding in the passenger seat of a car 22-yea-old Alexandra Jimenez was driving westbound on Highway 50. The California Highway Patrol told FOX40 Jimenez crashed into the back end of a big rig, for unknown reasons, before her vehicle was hit by an another car. Jimenez suffered minor injuries, while the injuries Jones received were fatal.

CHP says Jimenez now faces charges of gross vehicular manslaughter and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Friends of Jones gathered at BarWest in Midtown Thursday night, where he used to work. They were too distraught to talk on camera.

Friends and loved ones are welcome to attend a vigil for Brett Jones on Friday night at Glenbrook Park in Sacramento at 7 p.m. and can also donate to the GoFundMe account listed below:
