SACRAMENTO --

The past few days have been some of the most violent in Sacramento County this year, in terms of the number of shootings. There have been seven shooting in the past 24 hours or so, two resulting in death.

Sacramento police are still looking for the shooter who killed a 35-year-old Del Paso Heights man Monday afternoon. Meanwhile, Sacramento sheriff's deputies are searching for a suspect who shot and killed a 23-year-old woman early Tuesday morning.

"Nine shots took my cousin's life, this gun violence needs to stop," said Christine Clark, whose cousin was killed in Del Paso Heights.

According to Sacramento police and family, 35-year-old Calvin Goldsmith exchanged gunfire with an unknown shooter on Branch Street, while he was sitting in his car.

Although police said it's unclear who fired first, family said Goldsmith was initially fired upon. After he was hit, police said Goldsmith got into another car and attempted to drive himself to a hospital, but crashed into a fence at High Street near North Avenue. He was taken to the hospital by emergency crews, where he later died, according to police.

"That happened to him yesterday, today everybody is on hush and not saying anything," said Tonette Washington, Goldsmith's sister. "He knows we love him ... I don't understand why this happened to him. Because it was not his time to go, it was not his time to go."

Washington said her brother worked for her clothing company, and is survived by his daughter, Cavanna Goldsmith.

"(Someone just told me) 'your dad just died,' and I was in disbelief, like I can't believe it, and then I took a shower and I started crying, that's my dad. That's my only dad," Cavanna Goldsmith told FOX40 through tears.

About 10 miles away on Galbrath Drive in North Highlands, Sacramento sheriff's deputies are investigating another homicide, after a 23-year-old woman was shot and killed just after 12:40 a.m. Tuesday. Investigators are not saying if the two shootings are related yet or if four other shootings within Sacramento City limits have any connections.

"Back in the days when we were out here on these streets, it wasn't like this at all. Now it's terrible," Washington told FOX40.

Goldsmith's family believes he was killed by an ex-girlfriend, but are not sure. For now they wish that no other families have to endure the pain they already have and they're hoping for justice.

"Whoever committed this heinous crime, you need to turn yourself in. You took our cousin, you took our family member," Clark said.

Sacramento sheriff's detectives ask that anyone with possible information on the Galbrath Drive shooting  call (916) 874-5115.
