A student at Dixon High School was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of an on-campus rape, police said.
Investigators say they got a report of sexual assault Monday during school hours. The next day, the boy was arrested.
Dixon Police and the school district say the incident was isolated and any threat or risk to students was "removed."
Dixon High Superintendent Brian Dolan said the incident is rare on what is normally a very safe campus.
And while police investigate the allegations, Dolan urges the community to avoid getting caught up in rumors about what happened, particularly on social media.
"These folks' lives, both sides, are changed forever," Dolan said. "And the idea that we would add to the pain and stress of this by what we post on social media or how we present our understanding of this circumstance, I think we need to be very careful about."
