SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A San Francisco man has been sentenced to 202 years in prison for sexually abusing and assaulting two female relatives beginning when they were four years old.

The District Attorney’s office said 42-year-old Jose Melara was also ordered on Friday to pay more than $1 million in restitution to the victims.

During the nearly three-month trial, Melara’s niece testified that abuse began when her family began sharing a house with him and would continue for five years.

His 11-year-old cousin also testified that Melara would show pornographic films before committing sexual acts on her. Prosecutors said the victim’s mother caught him assaulting her daughter.

Prosecutors praised the young girls for coming forward and facing their attacker in court, saying their courage led to Melara’s convictions.
