The two teen boys hit and killed on the side of the road in Auburn Sunday evening have been identified as Jared Gaches and Trevor Keller.

Friends and students at Placer High School gathered Monday morning to mourn the loss of the two 15-year-old boys.

"Jared, has been my best friend since 6th grade, this is so hard," Placer freshman calling herself Kelsey said.

Placer County Sheriff's deputies say three boys, including Gaches and Keller, were walking along Highway 49 with their scooters and bikes. A driver in a pickup, for unknown reasons, swerved and hit two of the boys, according to investigators.

The driver has been identified by the CHP as 62-year-old Philip Ingram of Auburn. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, Officer David Martinez with the CHP Auburn office said.

Ingram was also involved in another vehicle crash earlier Sunday, the CHP said. The circumstances of that crash are not known.
