Two practices a day for months can lead to a bit of anxiety.

"We're looking forward to playing San Francisco," Jesuit High grad Ryan Koewler, one of many local players on Sacramento's new Pro Rugby team, said Tuesday.

The Pro Rugby League, with six teams, is a brand new league, trying its hand at an American audience.

Sacramento, like the rest of the league's teams, doesn't have a mascot yet, hoping the fans will come up with one.

"I went to Arizona State, so maybe the Sun Devils," said Koewler.

The team is coached by Luke Gross, a former professional rugby player and college basketball player at Marshall.

"With Sacramento having a big youth rugby presence hopefully we can top it off with the pros, says Gross"

The Sacramento squad will play its home games at Bonney Field at Cal Expo.

The first home game of the season is April 17 against San Francisco.
