SACRAMENTO — The U.S. Marshals are searching for a man accused of a 2012 rape of a mentally challenged, wheelchair-using woman in her New York apartment.

Michael Hawkins, known as “Zombie Mike” allegedly raped the victim in June 2012, after her family members fell asleep. The victim reported the crime the following day, but Hawkins stayed hidden from the authorities who had a warrant for his arrest.

Hawkins allegedly sexually assaulted another woman in Nov. 2013. This victim was reported to be the wife of Hawkins’ friend, who had invited Hawkins to their home for a family gathering.

Authorities believe Hawkins’ connections in New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Oregon, California and Florida give him many places to hide. Hawkins was previously employed at traveling carnival companies in New Jersey and North Carolina, so he may be working for similar companies in other areas.

Hawkins is known as “Zombie Mike” by his friends because of his poor hygiene, and is said to have temperamental and alcoholic tendencies. He is a 5-foot-9  white male with a scar across his face, a burn mark scar on his right arm, and a Grim Reaper chest tattoo.

Hawkins is charged with aggravated sex abuse in the first degree for the 2012 crime, along with first-degree rape for the 2013 crime.  Authorities are offering a $5,000 reward for any information leading to Hawkins’ arrest.

Anyone with information on the case is urged to call the U.S. Marshals at 1-800-336-0102.
