Sacramento Zoo Welcomes New Baby Giraffe

Meet the Sacramento Zoo’s newest resident — a newborn, 163-pound Masai giraffe.

Shani, the zoo’s female Masai giraffe, gave birth Sunday morning, zoo staff said.

“The two are not currently visible to the public; we will take cues from dam and the calf as to when they are ready to make their public debut,” Matt McKim, the zoo’s animal collection director, said in a news release We hope it will be in the coming weeks.”

The Masai is the largest giraffe subspecies.
