PATTERSON —

A suspect was arrested Friday, a month after he was caught trying to steal a refrigerator from the Sacred Heart Church in Patterson, police said.

Patterson Police said Xavier Diaz was seen pushing a commercial refrigerator off of the church property on March 11. When he was approached by a deputy, Diaz said he was removing the fridge from the church because it was trash.

The deputy was unable to contact the church to verify Diaz’s claims, so the refrigerator was returned and Diaz was let go. After a follow-up investigation, police were told that the appliance was not trash, prompting them to locate Diaz.

Diaz was arrested for grand theft and a probation violation.
