Highway 50 Reopens After Fatal Multi-Car Crash

SACRAMENTO —

A multi-vehicle crash blocked multiple lanes of eastbound Highway 50 in Sacramento on Sunday night, according to Caltrans.

Just after 5:30 a suspected DUI driver was traveling along Highway 50 when they rear-ended another vehicle, according to Michael Bradley with the California Highway Patrol.

The vehicle that was rear-ended then went onto the shoulder where it hit a disabled vehicle with no one inside. A fourth vehicle became involved and rolled over several times.

The driver of the car that rolled over suffered minor injuries. The driver of the car that was rear-ended died.

The suspected DUI driver was taken into custody.

Caltrans said the crash, which happened just east of Howe Avenue, was blocking three of the highway’s five eastbound lanes.

The highway reopened just before 8:30 p.m.
