STOCKTON -- Dameron Hospital in Stockton has closed its Maternal Child Health Services service line. The Labor and Delivery and Postpartum units, Neonatal ICU (NICU) and Pediatrics are all closed.

Seventy hospital staffers are facing layoffs.

This decision was caused by the transition of Kaiser physicians and patients out of Dameron.

“Our Maternal Child Health service line will be the most affected by the Kaiser withdrawal on May 1 because so much of those services are utilized by Kaiser physicians and their patients,” said Lorraine P. Auerbach, Dameron Hospital President and Chief Executive Officer in a press release.

Patient safety, competency/quality of care and coverage were all deciding factors in the closures.

There are three other hospitals within 30 miles - two of them within 10 miles - of Dameron that provide maternal child health services.
