SACRAMENTO-- Police in Sacramento investigated a drive-by shooting near Fruitridge and Power Inn roads on Thursday afternoon.

Anxious parents waited to pick up their children from the Sacramento Academic and Vocational Academy Charter School. They were kept outside while inside police questioned students about the shooting of a classmate.

The shooting happened off campus as the 18-year-old student was crossing Fruitridge from a fast-food restaurant toward a bus stop. That's when police say he became the victim of a drive-by shooting.

The student was hit with gunfire multiple times. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he's listed in critical but stable condition, police said.

But before making it to the hospital, the victim made it back to his high school where the school nurse and a paramedics teacher began to help him.

The shock of the shooting was enough to send another student into a panic attack.
