Domestic Violence Suspect Barricaded Himself in Citrus Heights Apartment for Over 6 Hours

CITRUS HEIGHTS -- A domestic violence suspect barricaded himself in an apartment for hours on Thursday night.

Citrus Heights police said the man was barricaded in an apartment at Birdcage Village from about 4 p.m. until after 10 p.m.

Officers had been attempting to get the man out of the apartment for hours. Finally, a SWAT team was called in.

Shortly after SWAT was called in, three gunshots were heard in the area. A short time later one person was seen being taken out of the apartment on a stretcher.

The Citrus Heights Police Department then tweeted that the standoff had turned into an officer-involved shooting investigation.

Nearby residents were asked to shelter in place during the standoff. That shelter in place has since been lifted.
