Sheriffs: South Sacramento Shooting Victim, 19, Dies

SACRAMENTO — A 19-year-old teen died Saturday from a gunshot wound in his upper body that he received earlier this week, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff officials said Deston Garrett, was shot Thursday night in the 3900 block of 45th Street in Oak Park. Garrett was transported to the hospital by a private vehicle where he was pronounced dead around 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

Officials say the events surrounding the shooting are still unknown, but detectives are now investigating the incident as a homicide.
