EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Chile has won the Copa America by defeating Argentina 4-2 on penalty kicks following a scoreless tie at the Meadowlands.

Francisco Silva converted Chile’s final shot to give La Roja their second straight Copa America title.

Argentina star Lionel Messi put his penalty kick over the crossbar. The five-time FIFA Player of the Year has won four Champions League titles and eight La Liga crowns with Barcelona but has never taken a trophy with Argentina’s senior team.

Lionel Messi later told Argentine network TyC Sports he’s quitting the national soccer team.
