WEST SACRAMENTO -- Police in West Sacramento are asking residents to be on the lookout Saturday night for a suspect who fled the scene after shooting a man.

The shooting happened Saturday evening near Virginia Avenue and Alameda Boulevard when, police say, a 22-year-old man was shot in the chest. Officers in the area are searching for the suspect who they say was seen running through the area following the shooting.

"[The suspect] was last seen in this area, so we've established a perimeter and we'll start a search momentarily," West Sacramento Police Sargent Roger Kinney told FOX40 shortly after 9 p.m. "We're asking residents watching this to stay inside, and if you see or hear anything suspicious, call the police immediately."

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male with tattoos on his neck, last seen wearing a black t-shirt, blue jeans and white tennis shoes.

If you have any information regarding this incident, or have seen the suspect, call the West Sacramento Police Department (916) 617-4900.
