STOCKTON — One person is dead and one is in the hospital with unknown injuries following two nearby shootings in Stockton, according to police.

The first incident happened Saturday evening after 8:40 p.m. near Stanislaus and Jefferson streets when, police say, a male victim was shot after trying to stop his girlfriend from getting robbed. The victim, who was transported to the hospital, described the suspect as an Hispanic male wearing all black clothes.

As officers were investigating that robbery, they were alerted of another male victim who was shot nearby on Worth Street. The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Stockton Police Department, the suspect in the fatal shooting on Worth Street matched the description of the man in the Jefferson Street robbery-turned-shooting.
