The California Automobile Museum celebrated the pickup truck on Sunday.

The pickup is being featured in an exhibit at the museum, which threw a themed "tailgate" party.

Folks were invited to have a truckin' good time by checking out some classic pickups and learning a bit more about a vehicle entrenched in American history.

"People love pickup trucks, and a lot of that is because they remember things. They drove in a pickup truck, they hung out in the bed of a pickup truck, they worked on a ranch in a pickup truck. People really identify with it," said Carly Starr, a curator with the California Automobile Museum.

The exhibit will be on display through Sept. 11.
