FAIR OAKS -- Officers are on the scene of a deadly officer-involved shooting after a suspect made an attempt to burglarize several homes in the area.

As the suspect ran away from one home, officers set up a perimeter and made contact.

When they confronted the 40-year-old man on Piedra Way, officers report that they repeatedly told the suspect to show his hands but he refused.

They said the suspect appeared to have a weapon that he pointed at deputies and that is when two deputies shot at him.

Deputies administered aid on the scene but the suspect was pronounced dead.

The scene is in the area of Mohawk Way and Piedra Way, near the intersection of Madison and Hazel Avenue.

Surrounding streets in the area are closed down.
