Experience Latin culture with the Latin Food and Music Festival.  The event is free and brings together music, art, dance, and food from as many different Latino countries as possible to share the different cultures with everyone.  One country being represented is El Salvador.  Studio40 Live was fortunate enough to try the famous El Salvadorian dish known as pupusas.  Pupusas are masa cakes with a grilled filling composed of meat, cheese, or beans.  The crew was happy to get a taste of El Salvadorian cuisine.  Find the recipe for pupusas below.

Pupusas con Curtido Recipe:

Makes 8 pupusas

For the curtido (makes about 4 cups): 1/2 head cabbage shredded, 1 large carrot grated, 1/2 medium yellow onion thinly sliced, 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar, 1/4 cup water, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon brown sugar, 1 teaspoon dried oregano (preferably Mexican), 1/2 to 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes

For the pupusas: 2 cups masa harina, Pinch of salt, 1 1/2 cup warm water, 1 cup grated cheese: quesillo, queso fresco, Monterey Jack, or mozzarella Vegetable oil
