SACRAMENTO COUNTY -- A deputy was hit by a vehicle near Gerber Road and Wilbur Way, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.

The deputy was hit while responding to a domestic violence call, according to the sheriff's department.  Investigators say the caller said 24-year-old Edgardo Guerra had a knife and was threatening family members.

Guerra was chased by the deputy from Wildfire Lane to Gerber Road, where he was ultimately caught. The sheriff's department said the deputy was hit as he was taking him back to his car.

The driver of that car stopped and cooperated with investigators, the sheriff's department said.

The deputy was transported to a nearby hospital for "observation" and was expected to be released later Friday.

A separate driver, identified as 53-year-old Alfonso Pizano, was arrested after he drove through the barrier while deputies were investigating the crash.
