FOLSOM — For 30 years, Sacramento area residents have been able to use the Sacramento Crime Alert service to anonymously pass along crime tips.

Now, Crime Alert has become Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers. The announcement was made Wednesday morning in Folsom with local law-enforcement and fire agencies.

“The bottom line is when somebody is off camera, they are more likely to give you specifics of exactly what happened if they have an interest in the case to help law enforcement out” Sacramento Sheriff’s Department Lt. Drew Wyant said Wednesday.

Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers has also launched a new app that is available for iOS and Android devices by searching “P3 Tips.”

Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers says under its previous name the organization has helped closed nearly 3,000 cases.

The group believes the name change and new affiliation with the recognizable “Crime Stoppers” name will help further raise awareness from the Sacramento area community.
