NEVADA CITY -- A large chunk of earth fell onto State Route 49 a few miles north of Nevada City Monday afternoon.
The highway was closed for several hours while Caltrans crews with heavy machinery cleared dirt, rocks and large boulders off the road surface.
Nobody was hurt by the landslide.
According to the California Highway Patrol in Grass Valley, the highway re-opened in the 8 p.m. hour, but drivers are advised to expect delays while crews continue to clean and repair the area of the slide.
Nevada City received about 6 inches of rain in a 24 hour period between Friday and Saturday. Several more inches are expected this week.
