RIO LINDA -- An 18-year-old man died after he was stabbed by another man in Rio Linda on Monday night.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department said the stabbing happened on West Second Street near Angel Way. Deputies say the 18-year-old man was stabbed in the upper torso. He was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. The man, later identified as Russell Jarvis, died from his injuries.

Jarvis and the suspect, Nicholas Scott, were reportedly friends at one time. Neighbors who knew both men involved say threats of violence were ramping up online before the stabbing.

Detectives say the two had ongoing issues. Jarvis arrived at Scott's home and a physical altercation ensued. The stabbing happened during the altercation.

When deputies arrived, they found Scott inside the home. He had major injuries to his hands and was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Scott was arrested on murder charges and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail. He is ineligible for bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
