MODESTO (AP) — Police in Modesto say they are investigating the death of man who died a week after being run over during a suspected road rage incident.

Modesto Police Department spokeswoman Heather Graves said in a statement Wednesday that 20-year-old Adrian Gomez died at a hospital a week after he was struck on Highway 99 near the Kansas Avenue exit.

Graves says Gomez was a passenger in a truck that was involved in a road rage incident with another vehicle on June 18.

Witnesses told authorities Gomez and another person got out of the truck and as they were walking toward the other vehicle the driver accelerated, hit him and drove away.

Graves says detectives believe they have identified the driver that fled the area and that the investigation is ongoing.
