SACRAMENTO COUNTY -- It’s hard for this family to see their home this way.

The roof now partially collapsed after wind whipped a grass fire through the attic.

The fire started in a field at W. Stockton Boulevard and Sheldon Road just on the border of Sacramento and Elk Grove.

"Not all of it’s gone,” Lisa Cummings said about the home her father built with his own hands. "My dad, a long time ago he built this house himself. So, it’s kind of sad.”

In such a flash that they only had time to grab their dog Christy and get out.

“We got out though, it’s good,” Cummings said.

“Because of the temperature and the wind, wind driven fires forced the fire into two homes,” Chris Harvey, Sac Metro Fire, said.

Authorities say two homes, one garage and two sheds were damaged in the fire.

There are no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
