Health Matters: Coping with Holiday Stress

Kaiser Permanente Psychologist Hillary Van Horn-Gatlin, Ph.D. addresses the physical and emotional toll the holidays can have on everyone.

Van Horn-Gatlin says the most important things to focus on are the three "F's" -- family, finances and feelings.

Pay close attention to physical symptoms when handling stress. Are you experiencing headaches, fatigue, or is it difficult to sleep?

It's important to take time for yourself on top of giving back to others. Lower your expectations to make things easier and eliminate unnecessary to-do's.

Set a budget for everything, including travel, food, gifts and decorations.

Most importantly, Van Horn-Gatlin says family should be a top priority.
