FRESNO (AP) — Authorities say a central California man who confessed to punching and killing a 14-month-old boy in 2016 has been charged with murder.
The Fresno County District Attorney’s office said Friday 31-year-old Kenneth Johnson was arrested and is at the Fresno County Jail.
Prosecutors declined to file charges against Johnson after the child’s death in November 2016, saying they needed more information from the coroner’s office.
Johnson, who was dating the child’s babysitter, reportedly told police he punched the baby because he was frustrated with his crying. The child, Jose Luis Espinoza, died at a hospital of internal bleeding.
The baby’s mother was in Modesto at the time of the incident.
It was not immediately known Friday if Johnson has an attorney.
